What We Do
The Philanthropiece Foundation engages in broad-based community development and empowerment, building healthy and sustainable communities. Our current geographic focus is in North and Central America. The Foundation works in selected developing communities on locally defined projects that focus on education, health initiatives, quality of life, environmental issues and business and economic opportunity. Philanthropiece works side by side with local community leaders to identify needs and to develop appropriate approaches that are culturally sensitive with an emphasis on sustainability. The Foundation also places a high value on collaborative work with other organizations. Philanthropiece is a US 501(c)3 operating foundation and is not a grant making organization.
Our History
Originally formed in 1997 as the Wild Oats Community Foundation, the Foundation provided low cost alternative holistic health care services and education to local communities in the United States. Over the ensuing years the Foundation supported other local community and educational initiatives, including the creation of the Millennium Trust Fund for Boulder County, Colorado in 2000. In 2005 the Foundation changed its name to Philanthropiece, expanded its focus beyond the United States and began working in the field of broad based community development. Since that time, Philanthropiece has worked on a variety of projects including the installation of wind and solar technologies, computer labs for K-8 students, women's health initiatives, small business development programs, educational programs and environmental research initiatives.
