“El Porvenir – It means the future”

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

It’s been almost a year and a half since the Philanthropiece Advisory Board and staff traveled to Nicaragua to explore best practices and experience the people and culture by working side by side on a service project. (Read more here) As part of our experiences, we were graced with the opportunity to work with El Porvenir, a Nicaraguan organization that is providing a healthier future for rural Nicaraguans through clean water, sanitation, reforestation, and environmental education. Last week, I was taken back to Nicaragua through this beautiful, promotional video for El Porvenir.  Our very own Beret Strong, of Landlocked Films, and her team produced the film after being inspired by the Nicaraguan people and the work of El Porvenir. This video is a lovely tribute to El Porvenir’s work and an inspiration to Philanthropiece to continue to work in the same spirit of El Porvenir, working side by side with the community.

Running Water International – Maji Salaama

Monday, September 21st, 2009

This summer, Philanthropiece partnered directly with 3 enterprise teams from the GSSE program at CSU.  All of these teams have recently returned stateside and are busy finishing up their coursework and making presentations on their summer research.

rwiOne of these teams, Running Water International (RWI),  recently posted a short video on their blog to share more about who they are and what they do.  RWI is providing solutions to the global water crisis and they established themselves as RWI-Maji Salaama (Swahili for “Safe Water”) while in Kenya.  They continue to contribute their hard work towards reaching Millennium Development Goal # 7, Target 3 of halving, by 2015, the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.  We encourage you to visit their blog and learn more about this amazing group of international students.
