Running Water International – Maji Salaama

Monday, September 21st, 2009

This summer, Philanthropiece partnered directly with 3 enterprise teams from the GSSE program at CSU.  All of these teams have recently returned stateside and are busy finishing up their coursework and making presentations on their summer research.

rwiOne of these teams, Running Water International (RWI),  recently posted a short video on their blog to share more about who they are and what they do.  RWI is providing solutions to the global water crisis and they established themselves as RWI-Maji Salaama (Swahili for “Safe Water”) while in Kenya.  They continue to contribute their hard work towards reaching Millennium Development Goal # 7, Target 3 of halving, by 2015, the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.  We encourage you to visit their blog and learn more about this amazing group of international students.

Former GSSE student awarded Acumen Fund Fellowship

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

For the past two years, Philanthropiece has partnered with Colorado State University’s Global Social and Sustainable Enterprise (GSSE) MSBA program working with the student cohorts on their summer practicum projects.   This program educates students from all over the world on the ins and outs of sustainable enterprise.   Some amazing students and innovative solutions have come out of this program and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

One of the 2008 graduates has recently been announced as an Acumen Fund Fellow.  Sule Amadu, an original team member of PowerMundo during his time with GSSE, will work with D.light Design in India, serving people without access to reliable electricity.  We wish Sule all the best with his latest venture and feel that his experience will serve Acumen well.  To learn more about Sule, click here.  To learn more about the Acumen Fund, go to www.acumenfund.org.

As posted here last week, the current GSSE cohorts are slowly returning from their summers abroad and we hope to share with you news of their research soon!

Organic Oasis is home from Peru

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

After 2 months in Peru, the GSSE – Organic Oasis team has returned to the USA.  Check out their blog at http://organicoasis2009.blogspot.com/ to read all about the great strides they made on their summer practicum and their aquaponics business.  Not only were they busy making contacts, building systems, and conducting research but Anni also ran a marathon.  Great strides indeed!  We here at Philanthropiece can’t wait to hear the recaps from all the GSSE teams of their summer experiences.
