About the
Philanthropiece
Banner

The Philanthropiece Banner is designed from folk art embroideries, stitched by women of the group, Artesana Maya. The embroideries express the rich Mayan culture of Guatemala. Weaving and embroidery have long been practiced by Mayan women, and these folk art embroideries allow the women to share their culture daily life while earning money through their craft. For more information and to purchase an embroidery of your own, please visit the Foundations for Education website.

Brief History of Philanthropiece’s involvement with youth
Philanthropiece has long recognized that today's youth are our world's future leaders. We are committed to seeking and creating opportunities to engage them in the world of philanthropy and empower them to make a difference. From 2006 - 2008, Philanthropiece partnered with the Community Foundation Serving Boulder County on the Junior Philanthropy program and the Vision of Giving Student Art Contest to encourage local youth to participate in philanthropy and volunteerism.

Youth Global LeadershipSince that time, Philanthropiece has been exploring other ways to involve local youth in the work we do and equip them with the skills needed to become thoughtful, action oriented global citizens. In January 2010, we held an all day design retreat and asked local students to share their ideas for a youth-focused, leadership program. This program is being designed by local youth to offer students the opportunity to make a difference in their world by providing them with leadership skills, entrepreneurial skills, international travel experiences and service-learning projects.
