Boulder International Film Festival

Boulder International Film FestivaWe are pleased to partner with the Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF), to present the “Call 2 Action”, a program that offers concrete ways for filmgoers to take the energy and passion inspired by film and move from concern to action.  call2actionButtonWe recognize that film can educate us and raise our awareness around certain issues and we have witnessed the ability of certain films to tug at the heart strings and make us want to jump into action to right the wrongs in our world. The 2012 Boulder International Film Festival, February 16-19, will present 14 Call 2 Action films on a variety of social issues ranging from genocide to climate change, wrongful conviction to breast cancer research. Philanthropiece is particularly pleased to be presenting the film Granito, a thrilling detective story when a documentary filmmaker is asked to use her film to help build a case for genocide. This year will also feature a return of the Call 2 Action tent, providing a unique space to converge and discuss the issues raised in the films. The Call 2 Action program presents thematic films and ways to get involved and make a positive difference. Be sure to join us February 16-19, 2012 and be inspired to ACT!

INVST Community Studies

  • INVST logoPhilanthropiece entered into an initial partnership with INVST Community Studies in the Summer of 2011. INVST Community Studies is a program out of the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU), developing students into engaged citizens and leaders who work for the benefit of humanity and the environment. They offer four innovative programs, including -- a comprehensive two-year Community Leadership Program (CLP) which develops community leaders through a combination of theory, skills and community service. Young people learn to be effective and responsible community leaders and engage in compassionate action as a lifetime commitment; Community Studies Electives which foster civic responsibility and leadership potential. Offered to any CU student; a Youth Council for Public Policy which empowers students to use the democratic process as a tool for positive social change. It uniquely offers high school students from Boulder Valley and Saint Vrain school districts the chance to attend classes at CU and participate with college students, earning CU credit; and the newest program which involves CU student mentors in Public Achievement with local middle and high school students in Lafayette, CO and the City of Boulder, in order to identify and solve community problems. They learn from each other about citizenship as they design and implement community service projects together in this mentorship program. Through this partnership we will develop mentorship opportunities for Philanthropeice’s Youth Global Leadership Program and further our knowledge on such themes as sustainability, leadership, environmental stewardship and democracy.

Mothers Acting Up

Mothers Acting UpPhilanthropiece has partnered with Mothers Acting Up to present The (M)other Tour. The (M)other Tour is a program working towards creating a global community of mothers moving from concern to action on behalf of the world's children. It is made up of a one-woman performance of (M)other, which engages the heart and mind, and a workshop that empowers mothers to use their voices, passions and creative genius to ensure the health, education and safety of every child on Earth. While we are saddened that Mothers Acting Up has closed as an organization, we are happy to report that the Mother Tour lives on and is available on DVD. Please visit www.mothertour.org to learn more.

Global Social and Sustainable Enterprise Program

Philanthropiece partners with Colorado State University on the Center for Advancement of Sustainable Enterprise and the Global Social and Sustainable Enterprise Program. The GSSE MBA Program is a concentration in the Master of Science in Business Administration at the College of Business aimed entirely at the convergence of social entrepreneurship and sustainability. The centerpiece of the GSSE is an intensive summer practicum in which student teams work on ventures domestically and abroad to apply classroom learning in the real world. The summer intensive is sponsored in part by Philanthropiece. Students visit the regions in which they plan to implement their enterprises, providing them with hands-on experience in how to use business models as a way to approach environmental, social and health issues in a developing economy.
